It can be so easy to fall into the trap of multi tasking in the hope to save yourself some time.
Time can be so limited and precious that you try to make the most of it thinking that multitasking is the most efficient and productive way of getting things done.
However this is not always the case.
Some psychological research shows that doing more than one task at a time can lead to loss in time and productivity.
Although multi tasking can be an important skill for our everyday lives, I can particularly relate to ist as a mother of five, however I can also see how doing too many things at once can sometimes lead to too many incomplete tasks.
Our days are made up of pockets of time split into schedules, meal times and a list of things to do.
If we structure our day well and organise the day to focus on one task at a time, can prove to be more efficient and will bring a sense of achievenment.
Doing too many things at once can become overwhelming and sometimes not fully focusing results in maling small or even big mistakes that can take more time and energy to rectify.
Try to make it a habit to commit yourself fully to one task at a time before moving onto your next one.
Things like moving between different work projects, or trying to complete two sets of homework at a time can prove to be both ineffective and the results may be poor as you are not fully applying yourself to one given task.
We can multitask in terms of keeping our work areas clear, putting on the washing machine whilst loading the dishwasher at the same time as these tasks are part of our everyday routine and almost robotic tasks we can do without thinking.
Things that require you to problem solve, create, edit, craft and that require you’re full commitment and attention are the ones you should do one at a time.
Again these methods are about reflecting, adjusting and seeing what works best for you, what motivates you to be most efficient and when your productivity levels are at their peak.
Change what doesn’t work for you and hold onto what does.
