We tend to think that the state of contentment will be found in things and people. If I get that salary, when I have that car/ house, when I get married or get that promotion I will be happy.
Being content is not defined by material possessions, your position in society or your achievements and accolades. It is not determined by things or being at a certain point in life.
Happiness is not a constant state of emotion. It is not something to grieve for when you feel sad.
It is in the everyday things, being fully present, appreciating the blessings around you, being grateful for the big and small things in your life and fully immersing yourself in every smile, laugh and experience.
Happiness is a very personal thing, you cant sit back and wait for it “to happen to you”. It is about what brings you joy and satisfaction. About your peace of mind, what makes you feel taken care of and caters for your well-being.
With that in mind, you can’t blame someone for your unhappiness by burdening them with unrealistic expectations. It is unfair if you place the responsibility of your happiness on someone else.
If you are a giving person and making others happy is when you glow with joy, indulge in that it is a beautiful thing.
If a hot bath after a bad day perks you up, do it for yourself. If you need a box of chocolates or a midnight drive and ice cream go for it!
If you are yourself and at peace in a calm clean environment, make changes that cater for that.
If you need a night out, a picnic in the park, lunch with friends or a movie night in, organise it and do it for you.
You know yourself best. If you don’t, then it’s time to put yourself first and start getting to know yourself better.
You can find small beacons of hope even in the most hopeless situations if only you are willing to see them.
Your happiness is your responsibility.
Take control and do what makes you smile and glow!
