Ways to boost your self-confidence 11: Do not let the fear of rejection hold you back!

It is easy to say don’t be afraid of rejection, but the reality is that rejection, if internalised can really hurt and affect your self-confidence.

You can experience rejection on a professional level when you courageously present a new idea that isn’t received well or apply for a promotion that gets turned down.

Remember rejection redirects our path to success and can create opportunities for better things to come. Don’t let it discourage or dishearten you!

Experiencing rejection on a more personal level can sometimes be harder to overcome. Especially if you need help and get turned down when you have reached out to someone close to you. It can be really devastating and you might feel reluctant to ask for help again.

Remember, you hold the solution to every challenge within you and through rejection you learn valuable lessons about who you choose to surround yourself with and who you can rely on in times of need.

You should always be able to ask for help if you are struggling, don’t deny yourself that right because of bad experiences and take on everything by yourself.

So how can we build up our tolerance to rejection in a fun way to prepare ourselves for future rejection (which is inevitable)?

Jia Jiung’s TED talk tackles the fear of rejection by doing what he calls the 100 day rejection challenge, where he purposely seeks out rejection to overcome the fear of it!

He understood that rejection can’t lead to quitting and embarked on a journey where he went out and looked for rejection to desensitise from the pain of it (taken from 100 Days of Rejection Therapy on rejectiontherapy.com )

Doing things like asking a stranger to borrow $100 or putting in a ridiculous order from a restaurant allowed him to reflect on how he reacted to rejection (even though he knew it was coming) and then how to change that pattern of behaviour.

By overcoming the fear of rejection you free yourself from so much anxiety and hurt related to it.

I always tell my own kids that whenever you ask for something always be prepared for both a yes and no because it could go either way.

See rejection as a redirection and not a form of failure or let down.

Reflect on your reaction to rejection, your past experiences and where your issues related to rejection stem from and how you can heal from it.

Because nothing should hold you back from your full potential.

You have everything you need within you to get to where you want to, to achieve your goals and be the beautiful strong confident person you have the ability to be.

reflect. love. heal always xx
